A canyon-edge Omani retreat where altitude feels like luxury
High in Oman’s Hajar Mountains, Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort has the kind of setting that changes the mood on arrival. The air is cooler, the silence feels deeper, and the canyon views stretch so wide they seem to slow everything down. Set on a dramatic plateau, the resort draws on the look of a traditional Omani fort, with towers, courtyards and stone details that feel rooted in the landscape rather than placed on top of it.
The rooms, suites and villas follow the same rhythm. Space, privacy and the view come first. Canyon-facing rooms bring the landscape straight into the stay, while the pool villas offer a more secluded pace, with private terraces and open skies that turn sunrise and sunset into part of the daily ritual rather than a passing moment.
Days here move easily between outdoors and restoration. The heated infinity pool, set near the canyon edge, is the natural centre of gravity, made for long swims, slow afternoons and that mountain light that seems to soften the hours. When it is time to retreat further, the hammam-inspired spa shifts the tempo completely, with mosaic-lined spaces, a deeply calming atmosphere and treatments that feel designed for this exact setting of altitude, stillness and space.
Access is by 4x4 only, as the mountain roads are steep and winding. Nizwa is the nearest town, around one hour away, and Dubai is about a four-and-a-half-hour drive. The resort can also arrange a chauffeur-driven 4x4 transfer from the base of the mountain (around 35 minutes each way), and valet parking is available.
