From the warm welcome at the airport to the moment of our departure, everything was perfectly organized, reflecting a high level of expertise and professionalism. The resort boasts fabulous beaches and a beautifully serene atmosphere, with the great advantage of being conveniently close to the airport. The food was phenomenal, offering some of the best and most delicious dining options we've ever experienced. We also loved the wide variety of activities; the endless options made our time pass quickly and joyfully. What truly sets this resort apart is the seamless harmony and coordination among the staff, which directly translates into absolute comfort for the guests. Huvafen Fushi ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ — Small Luxury Island in North Malé Atoll A compact, green, beautifully understated island that opened in 2004 with the world's first underwater spa, and still gets the important things wonderfully right: the food, the reef, and the quiet. Helped, too, by accommodation that has all been newly renovated and refurbished. What makes Huvafen Fushi special? - The world's first underwater spa: an eight-metre descent to a treatment room wrapped in panoramic glass, with surgeonfish, angelfish and the odd reef shark drifting past - Pleasantly small and walkable: only 46 bungalows and beach houses, everything within a five-minute stroll (no bikes needed) - A rare floating pool on a pier, with salt content high enough to let you float Dead Sea–style - Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, with a subtle boho-meets-Maldivian character How is the snorkelling and diving? - The house reef sits near the atoll's edge, so cooler water and stronger currents mean richer marine life and vivid colours - Over 500 metres of first-rate snorkelling with hawksbill turtles and reef sharks; safe entry points marked with red buoys even at low tide - Expect parrotfish, surgeonfish, butterflyfish, anemonefish, unicornfish, triggerfish, sweetlips, fusiliers, Napoleon wrasse, emperorfish and trumpetfish - The water sports centre runs turtle trips, PADI courses, kayak fishing, night snorkelling and (Jan–Apr) manta, whale shark and dolphin safaris - Handy touch: underwater cameras for hire, so no need to risk your phone in a dubious drybag What's the dining like? - Genuinely excellent, with quality clearly favoured over quantity - Standouts are fresh reef fish and tuna: ceviche, sashimi, tataki, tempura or catch of the day - The Japanese-Peruvian restaurant is the highlight, izakaya-style on the terrace: yellowtail with jalapeño ponzu, tender black cod with yuzu, plus a small Japanese sake list and a substantial wine cellar What are the rooms like? - Our Deluxe Beach Bungalow: a spacious 195 sqm, generous pool, large wooden deck, plenty of wood, a big comfortable bed - Light-flooded bathroom with Japanese washlet, freestanding tub and double vanity; outdoor waterfall shower and a second small pool with daybed - Espresso and tea bar, Bang & Olufsen sound system, and near-implausible storage Should I book in high season? - No need. Our late-July off-season stay delivered seven days of sunshine and a constant cooling breeze - Temperatures 28–32°C; humidity is high, but the breeze keeps meals by the sea a pleasure even without air conditioning - Resorts run at just 40–60% occupancy, so everything feels calm and unhurried - Prices up to 45% lower: here, roughly €930 pp/night instead of €1,500 Anything that lets it down? - Only real gripe: the occasional jet ski, the leaf blower of the seas, on an otherwise blissfully quiet island A word on the wider Maldives - Beyond this island, artificial islands are being dredged across the atoll, and it is a real concern - The extracted sand drives erosion, disrupts currents, clouds the water and smothers corals and seagrass, the very underwater world visitors come to see How can I help protect the reef? - Please choose reef-safe sunscreen. Avoid products with oxybenzone and octinoxate, which bleach and kill corals, and look for formulas free of nanoparticles and microplastics - Never stand on or touch the coral. Small choices from every guest genuinely add up The verdict Compact, green, quietly luxurious and seriously good on a plate, Huvafen Fushi is proof you don't need a huge island to have a superb one. Come out of season, bring reef-safe sunscreen, skip the jet skis, and you'll want for nothing.

We had a wonderfully relaxing time here. Free from boisterous evening events or over-the-top theatrics, we were able to fully enjoy the sounds of nature and the pleasant breeze. It is the perfect resort for those who appreciate this kind of sophisticated, relaxed experience. The service here is impeccable. Our butler, Ms.Alexis, was incredibly attentive, discreet, and observant. Often, when I go to resorts the excessive hospitality can be tiring. However, this hotel respected the guests' quiet and private time, making for a very comfortable stay. This is the first time I've received such perfect customer service outside of Japan. Late at night, after housekeeping hours had ended, I urgently needed a bath towel and contacted her; I was deeply impressed when she personally brought the item over, despite the rain. If you ever stay at this hotel, I recommend choosing her as your butler! I had stayed at another hotel in the Maldives before, but the food there wasn't particularly tasty, so I honestly didn't have high expectations this time either, thinking it would be the same. However, the food at this hotel was so delicious that I almost forgot I was on a small island. Ms.Wint and Ms.Claire in the main dining remembered our dietary preferences and allergies, and attended to us with courtesy and kindness. It left a strong impression on me because Wint and Claire would often look after me during breakfast every morning, but the servers in the other restaurants were equally excellent. There wasn't a single instance of a basic error—such as a missed order—making for a truly stress-free stay. A particularly memorable highlight was enjoying a special dinner just for us at a table set up right on the rocky outcrop. I am deeply grateful to the chef Mr.Shaffee, and the server Mr.Ramzeen.
