Hampton Manor has all the drama of a Victorian country estate, but none of the ceremony. Once owned by the family of former British prime minister Sir Robert Peel, the Gothic manor rises above 45 acres of parkland in Hampton-in-Arden, complete with a clock tower, walled garden and rooms made for grand entertaining. Today, owners James and Fjona have softened its formality with bold interiors, warm hospitality and a deep-rooted love of food, creating a luxury country house hotel in Warwickshire that feels elegant without ever becoming stiff.
Every bedroom has its own personality. Original fireplaces, tall windows and period details meet rich colours, botanical patterns and contemporary pieces, while freshly baked cookies, hand-ground coffee and thoughtful local touches make even the grandest spaces feel inviting. Feature Rooms are the most distinctive, from the dark, garden-inspired drama of Henrietta Maria to the softer greens and natural tones of De Montfort. Beyond the main house, the Walled Garden Suites offer a calmer, more modern mood close to the kitchens and gardens.
Food gives the estate its pulse. At Michelin-starred Grace & Savour, chef David Taylor turns seasonal British produce into an imaginative tasting menu with subtle Scandinavian influences. Dinner unfolds beside the Victorian walled garden, with the open kitchen visible through steel-framed glass and ingredients often arriving from only a few steps away. Kynd takes a more relaxed approach, serving generous, flavour-led dishes built around local suppliers, while the estate bakery keeps mornings supplied with sourdough loaves, warm pastries and the kind of cinnamon buns that rarely survive until lunchtime.
Thanks to the hotel’s convenient links with both the airport and railway station, getting around without a car is easy. Hiring one is worthwhile for exploring the surrounding countryside and neighbouring towns, with complimentary parking available outside and airport transfers arranged upon request.
