ELLE Dimora Di Sicilia

Three suites above the Roman amphitheatre of Catania
Elle Dimora di Sicilia is a boutique three-suite retreat in the heart of historic Catania, poised over the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre in Piazza Stesicoro and set beside the small church of San Biagio. The location is the property's defining note: from the terrace and from the rooms that face the square, the layered stones of the "colosseo nero", as locals call the black-lava amphitheatre, sit right below the windows, while the pedestrian streets of the historic centre begin at the front door. Piazza del Duomo, Via Etnea and the baroque quarter that earned Catania its UNESCO listing are all a short walk away.
The dimora is a personal project by its host, Leandra, who conceived the property as a residence rather than a hotel, and it counts three suites, each with a distinct narrative. Incanto lives under an eighteenth-century hand-painted ceiling of naturalistic motifs, comparable to the Galleria degli Uccelli of Palazzo Biscari, with contemporary pieces in acidised metal designed for the room. Anfiteatro faces the ruins and dresses its wardrobes with hand-painted wooden silhouettes of Roman sentries around a canopy bed veiled in Egyptian linen gauze. Dionisio, the warmest of the three, opens with a sculpture of the ancient god and pairs powder pink with dusty blue in a room of measured 25 square metres. All suites offer air conditioning, a private bathroom, minibar and coffee machine, streaming TV, a safe and free Wi-Fi.
Food and terrace hold the stay together. Breakfast is served upstairs on the roof garden, where the amphitheatre appears from a different angle at sunrise and a mise en place that changes every morning is set out by the host in person: tablecloths, ceramics and small details rotate day by day and the menu offers buffet, à la carte and continental options. The result is a slow, ceremonial start to the day that guests on Booking single out as an exceptional breakfast.

Reviews
Elle dimora has a very unique and well thought out character and aesthetic. The staff are absolutely amazing and are so helpful and welcoming. They left us the sweetest notes and treats and made our stay so special. The room was beautiful and we loved the views from the rooftop. Location is perfect too, right in the center of everything and safe walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do! We had a fantastic stay, thank you!
Perfect stay with amazing staff, location is great and the rooms are unique! Would recommend 10/10 ☀️
We stayed at Elle Dimora di Sicilia in early August, three nights in the Anfiteatro room and two nights in Dionysius, and had a very enjoyable experience overall. The location is excellent: central, convenient and easy to reach. What truly makes this place unique and so lovable, however, is the service. Thomas and the entire housekeeping team were exceptionally kind, polite and helpful throughout our stay. Their warm, attentive and highly personalised approach made us feel genuinely looked after. Both rooms were beautiful, combining classic architectural details with stylish contemporary design. That said, they would benefit from a little TLC. Some wear and tear was noticeable, including a broken toilet seat, a shower curtain that needed reattaching and a shower drain requiring attention. These are relatively minor issues, but they should not form part of the experience at a property of this standard. Breakfast was outstanding: a beautifully curated buffet with high-quality products, complemented by eggs prepared to order, the perfect start to the day. Unfortunately, we could not fully enjoy the rooftop terrace because Etna ash was a constant issue during our visit. Even allowing for these unusual circumstances, this area could also use some attention, particularly the visibly stained upholstery. Overall, Elle Dimora di Sicilia is a beautiful and characterful place in an excellent location. With a little more attention to maintenance, it could be truly outstanding. Above all, it is the wonderful service team that gives the Dimora its heart and made our stay so memorable.
