Food & Drink
The restaurant of the Hotel La Palma overlooking the garden, offers a simple cuisine, with ingredients and typical recipes of Piedmont, revisited in a contemporary key.
At dinner the quality of the food is very good, and certainly having a different menu every night, the freshness of the products is assured. We tried some foods including a tomato cream with Veneto rice and an excellent grilled pork fillet with salted plums. For drinks instead, half bottle of wine (375ml) starting at 16 euros is a little bit stiff.
Unfortunately, breakfast does not match the quality of the dinner in any way. The sweet and savory food buffet is small, with small quantities and you have to be careful not to go with other people, because the spaces are tight.
To enjoy a lunch overlooking the lake instead, you have to go up to the panoramic terrace on the top floor, the Skybar, where light lunches such as salads, pasta or hamburgers are served. This is also one of the lake’s trendiest bar – a great spot to sip on cocktails prepared by award winning baristas as you soak in the views of Lake Maggiore and the Borromean islands.
The staff, almost family run, is not very attentive and does not handle situations well in times of difficulty. There was an inconvenience with our booking, which certainly could have been managed more efficiently.
The pool area has been completely redone, and includes a waterfall side facing the lake and four areas with as many functions: an elegant main access stairway, a ramp entrance for the children’s area, an area with benches and hydromassage with air/water jets and a large relaxation area with air hydromassage beds.
The pool at the Sky Bar is intimate and at the same time breathtaking, with a view of the whole island. The summer evening, although beautiful while drinking a cocktail, is to be avoided due to the immense amount of mosquitoes. The hotel should remedy this.
On the sixth floor, a small but well-equipped gym with a lake view is definitely superb. The property also has a wellness area with Turkish bath, sauna, relaxation room and salt cave with panoramic views. For a fee: massages and treatments at the beauty center.
