TOP WORLD HOTEL Certificate
What is that?
Evaluation by our Hotel Advisor.
The Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I arises from its fifteen storeys height, while immersed in an enormous garden containing the multitude of dining outlets, majorly operating within the Summer season, as per the huge pool. Many events pavilions are available on site, complementing the events venues offer of the property, besides the meeting facilities within the main building itself.
Designed by the award-winning Barcelona architect Carlos Ferrater Lambarri and built in the 90s, it has undergone a recent renovation of the interiors, gifting the guests approaching the lobby of an astonishment-like feeling, similar to the ones usually reserved to the gothic cathedrals.
The 395 guest rooms and 37 suites offer unrivalled amenities, including plush beds with premium linens and bathrooms with separate tubs and showers. While all of the suites are noteworthy, the recently refurbished Signature Corner Suite features a particularly spacious living room and stunning views.
The lobby itself is an enormously tall and triangularly-shaped area, completely blind on two sides, while the entire façade is transparent and lets the light to fade in during the day. The utterly clean lines and the colour’s palette is devoted to a minimalistic, hypnotic effect which brings almost everyone to walk with the nose up.
The same feeling continues into the guest rooms, while preferring a more impersonal and clean style in most of the rooms. The materials used are very efficient in terms of comfort and maintenance, while the overall impact results slightly lacking in terms of remarkable details or artistic sense, which would have provided a more engaging ambience.
The Fairmont Barcelona is conveniently located within an average 15 minutes from Barcelona El Prat Airport, and the main railway station less than 7 km. Built in the heart of the 25 hectares of Torre Melina gardens dating back to the 19th century, this oasis of calm and greenery promises you an exceptional stay.
Reachable by taxi at an affordable fixed rate, is instead a bit more complicated to reach is taking advantage of the public transportation as the underground system, increasing the travel time to an average of 40 minutes. From the Zona Universitària subway terminal using the L9S line, it’s an additional 450mt by walk to the Fairmont.
Doubtless within a reasonable distance from the city center, probably due to the inner vocation of the property as being utterly dedicated to a business and MICE market thanks to the incredible facilities on site, it’s some kind of inconvenience reaching the most popular attractions either by subway or taxi.
While the surrounding of the hotel do not offer further choices in terms of restaurants within a walkable distance, besides the ones within the hotel itself.
Food & Drink
A wide range of dishes is available at the restaurant B-24 – with a lovely open-space setting right in the middle of the lobby area, and a 24-hour menu featuring elegantly presented tapas and international options. Long marble counters are available for groups dining, while a more intimate setting sits just alongside the counter.
There’s also an impressive choice of dining options with excellent food and extensive wine lists.
While the breakfasts selection and offer for the In-Room dining is wide and complete, the main curses and the whole range of dishes is extremely reduced to few proposals per kind. On the contrary, the kid’s menu has almost the same number of courses of the ‘regular’ one.
In summer guests and non-guests alike can enjoy the barbecue and cold dishes of The Terrace, found in the lush grounds of the hotel.
Set in 25,000 square metres of gardens, the Fairmont Rey Juan Carlos I boasts outdoor pools, Guests can enjoy a luxury wellness experience at The Royal Club Fitness & Spa that offers a luxurious wellness experience. The spa comes complete with an indoor pool and water circuit, sauna, steam room, and experience showers all with separate male and female access.
From morning to down, it’s possible to have hypothetically everything at the Fairmont. While the breakfast is served at ‘The Market’ on the ground floor, in a separate area, the dining outlets as the lobby restaurant & bar B-24 is open 24h – as well as the In-Room dining service.
A reasonable amount of activities is available; from the unique Royal Polo Club having public competitions and training next door, to the impressive Camp Nou stadium visible from the hotel rooms. Again, most of the facilities and outlets are located on the outdoor area of the property, making the off-season tourists expectations falling short.
Praises to all the Staff – from Front Desk to Housekeeping – matching all the standards and expectations.
The welcome from the manager on duty late in the night was extremely warm and thorough, while the rest of the whole Team managed to provide a great experience bringing a personal touch while engaging with the guests; not an easy task in a 430 guest rooms hotel.
A small downside, there were no doormen at the entrance upon the arrival at midnight. The check-in was instead smooth and the Team deserved all the praises from then on.
In terms of accessibility and guest experience, the Fairmont Barcelona has up-to-date facilities which help enormously to move in the huge building.
The comfort and and sleep quality are incredible, thanks to the ambience so well isolated from the outside and the privileged location.
