Casa Brera, Milan, Italy

Casa Brera

A refined Milanese retreat above the city
Just steps from Teatro alla Scala and the creative heart of the Brera district, Casa Brera captures Milan’s cultural confidence with ease. Deeply rooted in its surroundings yet quietly removed from the city’s pace, it feels like a private residence shaped by design, art and contemporary elegance.
Behind its rationalist façade, interiors by Patricia Urquiola bring warmth and expression through colour, texture and crafted materials. Rooms and suites feel intimate and composed, designed as calm sanctuaries that reflect Milan’s architectural heritage while embracing modern comfort.
Life unfolds upward, reaching its peak on the rooftop, where a panoramic pool offers a rare moment of stillness above the city’s rooftops. It’s a space made for lingering afternoons, sunset swims and evenings spent watching Milan glow from above.

Reviews
Lovely hotel. Perfect location. Incredible staff.
This hotel is located in the charming and elegant Brera district, which is a perfect location for seeing all the beautiful sights of Milan. Surrounded by cafés and shops and just minutes from the Duomo, it’s perfectly situated for enjoying a casual stroll through Milan early in the morning or late at night, after many of the day tourists have left. The service and hospitality are excellent. The rooftop pool is very comfortable and a much-appreciated treat during the day when Milan’s summer heat can be brutal. The sunbeds are luxurious, and the pool is heated! It’s not a large area so seating is limited if you come in the middle of the day. I booked a room that was a level or two above the standard category, but I still found it very small, with not nearly enough closet space. It felt a bit cramped, so I felt the value missed the mark considering the category and premium rates one pays for the hotel. I was also disappointed that breakfast was not included. I prefer when it’s just automatically added from the start. Don’t give me an option because there is something about being charged an exorbitant price for a cappuccino and croissant that feels a bit off-putting. That said, there were many thoughtful touches throughout our stay. We were surprised with a charcuterie board in our room and later with cookies which were small gestures that made us feel welcomed. I would describe the overall vibe as “quiet luxury,” which many travelers may appreciate. Since I was traveling with my young adult daughter, however, we were hoping for a little more social energy and atmosphere. Still, the hotel is close to everything but without the chaos, and the concierge and doormen in the lobby were consistently warm, welcoming, and professional from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.
