This unique, boutique hotel is magical. It was so thoughtfully built and decorated and feels very artisan and authentic to the area. It’s super cozy and feels like a home. The people are very sweet and accommodating and the food and drinks at the connected restaurant, Kaandela, is incredible. The breakfasts are awesome and the coffee is so so good and strong in a good way. I stayed in one of the suites (#7) and it’s so beautiful and spacious you hardly want to leave. The suite has really cold air conditioning and a comfortable bed/pillows It’s located in the city so of course you can sometimes hear horns and people but that’s expected in the heart of the city and isn’t bothersome especially with the a/c or tv on. It usually stops completely by 9pm or so on weeknights. You are literally steps away from anything you could need which is great. Loved it and highly recommend!
Amarla Boutique Hotel is a beautifully designed, atmospheric stay in the heart of Casco Viejo. The hotel has a distinctive old-world character that feels both refined and restful, with thoughtful interiors, striking artwork, a memorable signature scent, and a strong sense of place throughout. One of the best parts of staying here is how immersed you feel in the neighborhood. Step outside and you are immediately in the middle of Casco Viejo’s historic streets, restaurants, architecture, and energy, while the hotel itself still feels intimate and calm. The culinary experience was a particular highlight. Breakfast was excellent, and dinner at Kaandela is absolutely worth planning into your stay. The cocktails were also creative, elaborate, and fun, adding another layer of personality to the experience. We stayed in the King Duplex Superior Suite, which I would highly recommend. The two-story windows, balcony, and views over the street below gave the room a wonderful sense of character and made it feel connected to the neighborhood rather than removed from it. We also stayed during the week, which gave the hotel and surrounding streets a quieter, more relaxed feeling that suited the experience perfectly. Amarla is the kind of hotel I remember less for one dramatic moment and more for the combination of design, food, atmosphere, scent, and setting. It is evocative, distinctive, and a lovely way to experience Casco Viejo.
