A luxury canvas camp in Pench where the forest comes close

Beneath the shade of a banyan tree, Jamtara Wilderness Camp begins with the feeling that the jungle has already arrived. Set beside Pench National Park, this intimate safari camp trades polished excess for canvas, silence, arjuna trees and the slow electricity of being close to the wild. With only ten luxury tents, it feels deeply personal, shaped by game drives, birdsong, dust tracks and evenings around the fire.

The tents are elegant without breaking the spell of the landscape. White canvas, calm interiors and thoughtful comforts create a soft landing after early starts in the park, with air-conditioning, hot-water bottles, natural bath products and tea and coffee facilities adding quiet ease. There are no televisions, no Wi-Fi and no mobile signal, which feels less like a missing detail and more like the entire point.

Safari is the pulse of the stay. Mornings and afternoons lead into Pench’s wilderness, where each drive carries its own suspense: a movement in the trees, a call in the distance, the possibility of tiger country revealing itself for a few unforgettable seconds. Back at camp, the rhythm softens around the pool, the library and the firelit stories that follow each sighting.

For the most atmospheric night, Jamtara moves the bed into the open. The machaan experience places a four-poster high on neighbouring farmland, inspired by the raised platforms once used by farmers watching over their crops. Lanterns glow, star maps guide the sky, and the surrounding fields become part of the room. It is romantic without being staged, with part of the experience supporting the local farmers whose land makes it possible.

Es war eines der Highlights unserer Indienreise. Der Pench NP ist ergiebiger als der Satpura NP und das von Kriti Patil hervorragend geführte Camp ein absolutes Erlebnis. Unte... Read More
